As the Upper East Side and El Barrio/East Harlem neighborhoods experience the increasing impact of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, our hearts are heavy. For forty years, we’ve fought to improve the quality of life for our cherished communities. Yet we find ourselves and the communities we hold dear under threat of a virus that is likely to touch all of us with its wrath, either medically, financially or emotionally.

However, our spirits are strong and fighting! As a union of citizens, CIVITAS is doing its part to stop the spread of the coronavirus; adhering to the new normal of CDC health and safety protocols. We are profoundly inspired by your commitment to do the same. Let our efforts inspire you. We are all in this together.

Although challenges, uncertainty and fear abound, we have no doubt that together we are tougher and more resilient than any crisis. We’ve waged battles before and won! We did not pick this battle but we will win this one too.

CIVITAS stands with you.

Business Directory

The global coronavirus has brought uncertainty and anxiety into people's lives, workplaces, and neighborhoods.

During this unprecedented time CIVITAS has recognized that many local small businesses need support now more than ever. We've put together a business directory to help you figure out which businesses are open and the services they are offering in response to COVID-19.

Dear friends and neighbors of CIVITAS, Over the past years, CIVITAS has continued its important work on legacy issues such as advocating for a demonstration project on building  an ecological edge along the East River waterfront, Advocacy efforts on Phase II of the Second Avenue Subway, and keeping a close watch on institutional expansion plans, including those of the Frick Collection, Marymount School, and porpsoing a 350ft building height limit on new construction.

In spite of our diminutive size, CIVITAS continues to have an outsized impact on critical issues of the city.  We call upon you, our neighbors and friends, to join us in our work and to share your ideas and suggestions so that we can continue to have relevance on civic matters of importance to us all.

Rescheduled.

With concern for the health and well being of our members, friends, and supporters, CIVITAS will be rescheduling our annual benefit, Celebrate CIVITAS honoring Marvin and Donna Schwartz, previously slated for April 28th.

We are monitoring the evolution of COVID-19 in accordance with CDC and health and government officials’ recommendations and mandates, and look forward to sharing a new event date once rescheduled. CIVITAS would continue to welcome Host Committee and other donations associated with the benefit.

Stay update with the latest?
