Challenge Yourself To Learn and Grow

Welcome to the website for Student Rights and Responsibilities. Here you will be able to find information regarding the Student Conduct Code, information regarding the conduct process, resources for students, faculty/staff, and parents, as well as the other services our office provides. If you have questions regarding the information presented here, or need further clarification regarding our office, feel free to contact us.

Mission
Student Rights and Responsibilities administers a fair, educational, and consistent conduct process that holds students and student organizations accountable to the Student Conduct Code.  The office works to provide opportunities for students to reflect on their behavior and grow in the process.

Vision
Student Rights and Responsibilities (SRR), in alignment with the vision of student affairs at SIU, hopes to be recognized by SIU students as a resource office where concerns are received without judgement, and every visit is felt to have equal importance.  The SRR staff collectively shares values that focus on compassion, engagement, collaboration, inclusivity, integrity, learning, service and accountability!  As such, the SRR office is optimistic about empowering every student to succeed: everyone, every time!

A message from Chancellor John M. Dunn

We are aware of an old video of an SIU student making racist remarks that is circulating on social media. As individuals and as an institution, we must loudly condemn racism and its expression. These hurtful, damaging comments do not represent our community. As I stated in a previous message, diversity and inclusion are embedded in our mission. We urge all members of our community to model our values and demonstrate respect for others. I assure the campus community that we investigate and take appropriate action when we receive reports about acts of racism.

Tomorrow, the first SIU system-wide “Conversation of Understanding” will focus on hurtful speech and its impact. This timely discussion will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on the SIU system office YouTube channel. SIU System President Dan Mahony and incoming SIU Carbondale Chancellor Austin A. Lane are among the panelists. We all encourage you to participate as we work together to combat racism.
